Types of Cleaning Services / Tips

  1. Carpet Cleaning- The whole purpose of a carpet is to hold the dirt. It gets in the fibres and stays there. It fact it falls to the base of the fibres and gets into the backing as well. Lift your carpet and you will see what we mean. Just when you thought you were clean, as well. Nice home for things.......... So after time the dirt abrades the fibres. This is why carpets wear out. The heavier the traffic, the faster the carpet wears out. Those fibres also hold grease and organic soiling and this traps smells, so after a time that piece of wool mix or propylene really starts to reek. So having looked at the foul thing once too often you decide on a clean. Especially after a hard dirty winter.Carpet cleaning should not be undertaken lightly. Most of the money you spend on it will be wasted. However the money you spend on a very good, high suction vacuum cleaner will not be. Why? Because a good vacuum cleaner will get virtually all of the dirt out of your carpet, from the base upwards, whereas a full carpet cleaning system will remove the discolouring from the pile. It will not act in place of a vacuum cleaner and should not penetrate below the base - a soaking carpet goes mouldy very quickly.
There is also the littlematter of a washed carpet turning dirty very quickly after cleaning. This is entirely due to the detergent residue left in the carpet. So even carpet cleaning with the dry method leaves residue deep in the pile which acts as a magnet to soils. Your carpet gets even dirtier as a result. This is why carpet cleaning is a waste of money if you do it too frequently.
  2. Bathroom Cleaning-
    • HOW TO CLEAN CERAMIC TILES AND GROUT-Throw out the cistern blocks and the artificial perfumes, you will not need them.
Wash down the whole of the toilet, including behind the seat, with a proper hard surface detergent in solution and then rinse it off. Then wipe dry with a half damp cloth, now leave it to dry. Wash the bowl by pouring a splash of the neat detergent in the water, and scrubbing with the toilet brush. Now flush the toilet.
    • DESCALING A TOILET-You will need to descale a toilet about once a month -urine and hard water is a good combination to make scale - that's the staining around the lip of your bowl and this is the stuff that your bleach treatments and anything else you are using is not removing Acid is the only scale remover which is going to work in areas of hard water. Use phosphoric acid or citric acid for preference. Vinegar and anything else you might have read about will not work. So go and buy a proper descaler from a janitorial supplier and keep it to clean the grout and the taps and the shower head as well. Also use this to clean your shower cubicle.
Once your toilet is descaled, all it requires is a daily wash, including a wash around the bowl, as previously shown.
  3. Stain Removal-Get rid of those stains on your clothes, see a quick guide to stain removal on all your fabrics andcarpets and get an alternative to dry cleaning. Most stains on laundry and clothes are removed by soaking the clothes in a warm - that is only as warm as is comfortable to your hand - solution of washing soda crystals.
Make the solution quiteconcentrated - we use a whole packet to a bath tub of water, but use your common sense when soaking clothes. Greases, most stains and general grime come out well with this method but white marks under sleeves do not. These are caused by overenthusiastic use of anti perspirants.
Wring out the clothes and put them in the washing machine for a full wash. Length of soaking time depends how fixed the stains are. The washing soda loosens stains and the action of the washing machine and the washing powder in the higher water tempreture, removes the staining.
  4. Window Cleaning-Get professional with this one and buy the proper equipment - the squeegee especially. You will not clean windows properly without much hard work, otherwise. You wash windows with washing-up liquid solution, and squeegee the window dry. Then you wash the frame and sill and dry with a wrung - out cloth. Work on the upstairs windows before you clean downstairs. Drips and all that.
  5. Floor Cleaning-Floors have to be cared for and the job is easy if mats are placed by doorways, however on sealed surfaces, and high gloss finishes you should only choose non-slip mats. Use a soft sweeping brush for general care. Remember, instant care saves much time and money later.
Never wax a sealed marble, stone or clay floor. These need serious care. Use only the bare minimum of water to clean these floors. It may be a forgiving surface but that does not mean total negligence, nor absolute panic over it. Wood flooring comes either waxed or sealed, and wax is not sealed. You can easily test for wax by putting drops of water in a hidden place - if the floor turns white where the water drops are, then it is waxed. This means you need extra care on its cleaning.
  6. Stainless Steel and other Metal Cleaning-cast iron pans are the best cooking pans out there, but most people are put off by the rust which appears after washing. Cast iron, which never wears out, should be dried over heat after washing and then dressed while still hot, with oil you use for cooking with. If they go rusty after this, you have dressed them when cold. Keep the oiled pan as warm as you can for as long as you can. Result-no rust. you do not need to wash the pan before use, but you must always dress it after use.
  7. Cleaning Outside
    • BRICK CLEANING-Brick, and stone is cleaned by being very careful with hydrochloric acid and using it in dilution of about 1 to 20 parts of water, but it should be well rinsed off with water after cleaning.
NOTE WELL: Since a mineral acid burns the skin and eyes easily, cover your eyes with goggles and your hands with gloves, and use some protection for your clothes. You can apply the acid with a sweeping brush; leave the area to soak until you can see the colour lighten of the bricks and then rinse. Rinse off with water. Make sure, before you start that there are no near - by surfaces which can be damaged by the acid and protect them. You can usually buy this acid already in solution as brick cleaner. Leaving the surfaces to soak makes the acid work much more effectively.
    • CLEANING DECKING and OUTSIDE FURNITURE-You can clean all types of wooden decking by soaking it in a solution of very dilute (1%)caustic soda (sold as drain cleaner) and scrubbing it while in soak with a long handled deck brush. This removes the black slimy stuff which hangs around the wood after a winter. You must rinse this well after treatment. A pressure washer rinses this well. Don't get tempted into using an acid or bleaches on decking - you'll ruin it. And be careful while using caustic soda - cover your hands and be aware of splashes. For more specific information go to our boat cleaning section.
  8. Kitchen Cleaning-2- 5% caustic soda in a solution of warm water and this is left on the surface for
about a half hour. Then this is washed off with another solution of washing up liquid in warm water.
Leaving the cooker to soak gets it quickly and efficiently free from grease. Emulsify (dissolve) the removed grease with a solution of washing-up liquid in hot water. Tip all down drain (and clean your drains at the same time) finally rinse all off with clean water. Everything works faster if the cooker surfaces are warm before the first soaking.
  9. Marble Cleaning-We’ve said this so many times in the past: Marbles, limestone and clay floorings are delicate materials to clean, so treat them as such. You will never ever get a nicer surface, and it will last a lifetime but treat with care and use care when cleaning.Never use any acids - and that includes vinegar, lemon juice, and most grout cleaners.Never use bleach, and take great care on the alkalis. You will find that a low foaming detergent based around d-limonene will clean marble quite effectively. These surfaces will clean with a very dilute detergent solution - which should not be washing - up liquid. They should be well rinsed after cleaning and left to dry. They can be polished up with a dry cloth if needed, or gently buffed. What you shouldn't do:You should never scrub any marble with a scouring pad, especially not a metal scouring pad, the damage will be pure vandalism, because the small pieces from the scouring pad will stick to the marble and rust in situ, so your marble will show sometimes extensive rust staining. This can only be removed by re-polishing, which can be an expensive procedure.Use extra care if the marble is pitted or has lost its shine - this means it needs repolishing and that is a specialist job. Never be persuaded that an acid etch will clean the marble - it will not, and will damage the marble. Marble subject to heavy wear should always be impregnated. Use the specialist cleaners and maintainers available from MB Stone who are experts in all aspects of marble care. Avoid using a buffing or scrubbing machine if the surface is unsealed and powdery -you will see the swirl marks and these can only be removed by re polishing.

Maid service, cleaning service and janitorial service

These services may be different, than what is generally thought to be the historically prevalent services performed by a maid and these services may be provided by both male and/or female individuals.
In current descriptive, "maid" is a female employed in domestic service. Once part of an elaborate hierarchy in affluent homes and profitable businesses, today a maid may be the only domestic worker that upper and even middle-income households can afford, as a household domestic-help employee. Maids perform typical domestic chores such as cooking, ironing, washing, cleaning, grocery shopping, walking the family dog, and tending to the household children.
In the Western world, comparatively few households can afford live-in domestic help employees, in lieu of this affordability, the alternative, generally termed as a maid service is utilized as a periodic cleaner. In developing nations, differences found within income and social status between different socio-economic classes, lesser educated women, with less opportunity are believed to provide a labor source for domestic work.
Maids, per se, perform typical domestic chores such as cooking, ironing, washing, cleaning the house, grocery shopping, walking the family dog and taking care of children. In many places in some poor countries, maids often take on the role of a nurse in taking care of the elderly and people with disabilities. It is beliveved that many employers of maids require the individual to wear a uniform, of the traditional style.
Socio-economic opportunities, not being confined to any specific global location, may allow for cleaning services to perform 'cleaning' as their source of business as a service.
Utilizing a maid service may be considered due to a number of personal factors, including but not limited to geographical location, social standing, lack of personal time, lack of experience.
Historically, utilizing a maid service was thought to be affordable only to the affluent, these services though, have become increasingly common in many developed cultures, partly because of the rise in dual-income families.
A maid service may be more expensive than simply hiring a part-time maid, but it offers a number of advantages. Usually the service will provide not only someone to do the cleaning, but also all of the necessary cleaning supplies. Also, as a bona fide employer, the service is responsible for withholding Social Security and other income taxes. Third, a service is insured and often bonded, so it can be held accountable if something is stolen or missing.
Janitorial service often refers to the use of a cleaning service for businesses rather than just residential. The advantages to using a janitorial service are the same as using a maid service for residential above. Janitorial services in the United States employe thousands of workers from all parts of the world.
There are thousands of residential cleaning businesses throughout the United States and Canada. Maid services are becoming more popular in cities in particular; perhaps a sign of a relatively well-off population. Historically and traditionally, cleaning was considered a woman's role, but as more and more women have joined the workforce, the time pressure on families with children has grown, so paying a service for cleaning makes sense to persons who can afford it. Additionally, many modern homeowners lack the proper knowledge to use the safest and most effective cleaning products.

Housekeeping or housecleaning

s the systematic process of making a home neat and clean in approximately that order. This maybe applied more broadly that just an individual home, or as a metaphor for a similar "clean up" process applied elsewhere such as a procedural reform. It can also be called household management, which is the act of overseeing the organizational, financial, day-to-day operations of a house or estate, and the managing of other domestic concerns.
In the process of housekeeping general cleaning activities are completed, such as disposing of rubbish, storing of belongings in regular places, cleaning dirty surfaces, dusting and vacuuming. It is also the care and control of property, ensuring its maintenance and proper use and appearance. In a hotel, "housekeeping" is also a term for the cleaning personnel.
Some housekeeping is housecleaning and some housekeeping is home chores. Home chores are housework that needs to be done at regular intervals, Housekeeping includes the budget and control of expenditures, preparing meals and buying food, paying the heat bill, and cleaning the house. Outdoor housecleaning chores include removing leaves from rain gutters, washing windows, sweeping doormats, cleaning the pool, putting away lawn furniture, and taking out the trash.
Tools include the vacuum cleaner, broom and mop. Supplies such as cleaning solutions and sponges are sold in grocery stores and elsewhere. Professional cleaners can be hired for less frequent or specialist tasks such as cleaning blinds, rugs, and sofas. Professional services are also offered for the basic tasks. Safety is a consideration because some cleaning products are toxic and some cleaning tasks are physically demanding. Green cleaning refers to cleaning without causing pollution. The history of housecleaning has links to the advancement of technology

Clutter problem

Clutter is belongings that have not been put away into storage locations designed for them. If there are not enough shelves and drawers and hangers and there can’t be more, this is a cause of clutter. There is a limit to the number of possessions that can be neatly stored in a home. A tangled pile of old coats, mittens, scarves, hats and boots occurs in some hall closets. Pawnbrokers, thrift shops and garbage collectors are involved in the prevention of clutter.

Dirtiness

Although one meaning of housecleaning is "improvement," the primary meaning of housecleaning is "the cleaning of a house." A goal of housecleaning would be the removal of mold from shower grout or smudges and splatters from a kitchen wall. Examples of dirtiness or "soil" would be dry coffee spills and jelly drips or muddy footprints on carpet. Soap and water is a "cleaner." Equipment used with a cleaner might be a bucket and sponge. A modern tool is the spray bottle, but the scientific principle is the same. Cleaning supplies have directions and are sold at janitorial and other stores. Cleaning specialists such as carpet cleaners are listed in phone books. Housecleaning is done to achieve and to enjoy a cleaner house.
